my proper jobs

Just an itinerant bass player, a musical slut who'll do any gig for a bob or two? Absolutely. Got me in one.

Dorset Echo

I write a weekly feature, with Marco Rossi, for the Dorset Echo, highlighting the remarkably healthy live music scene in the Weymouth/Bridport/Dorchester area.

It appears in the Friday editions of the paper. Once again, I'll include a link soon.

Weymouth College School of Music

Since April 2005 I’ve been teaching music at Weymouth College, Cranford Avenue, Dorset (posh title Lecturer in Music Performance), aiming to get students from school leaving age upwards to Diploma level in music.

As the job title indicates, I focus on the performance aspect, getting the students to play in various formats, sometimes within the group, sometimes to other students, sometimes performing concerts for the public, in schools and suchlike.

It can be incredibly rewarding when you see musicians flourish and very frustrating when talented players can’t be bothered to push themselves. It’s also a perfect vantage point to see new talent emerging, maintaining the remarkable good health of the music scene in our corner of the world.
