24th November 2004

On Friday 19th November was helping to raise around £350 for Children In Need with a gig with the Black Dogs at the Black Dog , St Mary Street, Weymouth. Lots of blues and lots of fun. On Saturday 20th Little Dixie returned to the Ropemakers, in West Street, Bridport for a gig that coincided with my birthday, and also Mutter’s wife Linda’s. A jolly time should be had by all.

On Thursday, 2nd December the Ben Waters Band sets off for its second visit to the Storyville Club in Helsinki, Finland. Last time we were there it was in the middle of summer, meaning we didn’t actually see darkness for three days, as night came and went while we were playing. This time it will be closer to mid-winter, so there’ll only be a few hours of daylight. The contrast should be interesting. We’ve also got Werewolves of London guitarist and all-round good geezer Tony Farinha coming out with us. I’m looking forward to that immensely.

Advance notice now of a one-off reunion of the Jess Upton Soul Band, taking place at Bridport Arts Centre, South Street, Bridport on Saturday 18th December. The gig will feature nine of the original band’s line-up, and may well be a sell-out. Contact me via this site for information/tickets or contact the Arts Centre’s box office on 01308 424204.

Sadly, trumpet virtuoso Matt Barge won’t be on the gig, as he and his family were victims of a freak accident that left Matt with serious facial injuries and his 10-month-old son in intensive care. Matt and his son are both well on the mend now, but Matt doesn’t see himself playing again until the New Year. I’m sure you’ll want to join me in wishing them speedy recoveries.

As usual, the jam sessions continue at Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth, Dorset. If you want to play, contact me or just turn up before 9pm and book yourself a slot.
