old news1st March 2006The Rosetta Life single ‘We Laughed’ has just been released in Ireland, so Billy Bragg, Helena, Julie Lewis, Ady Milward, Ade Collis and myself flew out to Dublin on Friday 24th February to do the Late Late Show for RTE. We were miming to the original single with Helena performing a live vocal. Talk about easy gigs! We took full advantage of some splendid Irish hospitality and had a wonderful time. We flew back on Saturday morning, and then Ady and I high-tailed it to Bridport for a gig at the Ropemakers. Despite severe Guinness lag we had a great night. On Thursday 9th March I’m joining Robbie McIntosh, Geraint Watkins and Paul Beavis at the Centre Stage in Bournemouth for a reunion of the band that toured Germany a couple of years back and recorded the Funsbury Park CD. I’m looking forward to that hugely. On Saturday 11th March Ady and I have got a double-header. The Rosetta Life Band are playing at singer Helena’s 40th birthday bash at the Old Down Inn, Emborough, Somerset in the afternoon, after which we head on up the A37 towards Westbury-on-Severn for a fundraising gig with the Ben Waters Band. We’re off to Storyville Happy Jazz Club in Finland on Thursday 16th for our fourth visit to that splendid establishment. It’s a long old slog of a gig, 9.30pm to 3am three nights on the trot, but it’s huge fun with the Finns. I love it out there. As usual, the Thursday night jam sessions continue at Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth. New and established bands and solo artists are encouraged to take to the stage, and there’s at least half a dozen bands out gigging now that started off playing a few numbers at these sessions. If you want to book yourself a slot, get down there before 9pm and have a word with me. PA and backline is provided. Chris Lonergan |
